If it's not worth billing, write it off. Don't send a $0 invoice.

Your billing queue has $0 invoices in it right now. Leftover WIP on a closed engagement that isn't worth billing. Old projects that need clearing. And in most systems, handling them means drafting an invoice you're never going to send, then figuring out how to make it disappear cleanly.

ModernPM makes write-offs a two-click operation. No invoice required.

How It Works

When there's $47 of leftover WIP on a closed engagement, nobody wants to send a $47 or $0 invoice. From WIP Management, select the WIP items you'd like to write off and done. No invoice drafted, no billing queue clutter, no awkward $0 bills going to clients.

And in case there's any ambiguity: $0 invoices literally can't be sent in ModernPM. The button is disabled. The system won't let you do the thing you didn't want to do anyway.

Why Clean WIP Matters

WIP that lingers on closed engagements distorts your realization rate and clutters your billing queue. Every unresolved write-off is noise in the data — noise that makes it harder to see what's actually outstanding and what's just leftover from work that's already been addressed.

Clean WIP means accurate realization reporting. It means a billing queue that reflects actual work to be done. And it means not spending time on invoices that are going exactly nowhere.

The Bottom Line

Two clicks. Clean WIP. Clean queue. No awkward $0 bills. That's how write-offs should work.
