Top 500 Firms Are Not Just Bigger Small Firms

ModernPM cares about firms of every size.

But we are uniquely focused on serving the top 500 CPA firms in the country.

That focus matters because a large firm is not simply a small firm with more users.

Larger firms have multiple offices, legal entities, service lines, billing models, reporting structures, jurisdictions, and layers of operational complexity.

They may have centralized billing for part of the firm and partner-led billing elsewhere. They need permissions that reflect how the organization actually operates. They need consistent firm-wide processes without removing the flexibility individual service lines require.

They also have years of data, dozens of integrations, complex migrations, and hundreds or thousands of people who cannot stop working while a new system is introduced.

Those are fundamentally different product requirements.

Many newer practice management systems are built for the broadest possible market. That is understandable. Simpler firms are easier to serve, faster to onboard, and provide a larger pool of potential customers.

But software built for the common denominator eventually reaches a wall.

The workarounds begin. Outside tools get added. Reporting moves into spreadsheets. Important processes exist in people’s heads because the system cannot accommodate them.

Legacy providers have the opposite problem. They may support complexity, but too often it comes with outdated technology, closed data, expensive consulting, custom deployments, and years of accumulated technical debt.

ModernPM is willing to take on the harder middle ground.

We are building modern, intuitive software capable of supporting the nuanced operations of sophisticated firms.

That does not mean only top 500 firms can use ModernPM. It means the requirements of complex firms drive the product.

If we can successfully support multi-entity organizations, sophisticated billing structures, jurisdictional workflows, firm-wide reporting, open integrations, and large-scale implementations, the product becomes stronger for every firm using it.

Focus requires saying no to distractions.

We are not trying to become a tax platform, document-management system, payroll company, and everything else at the same time.

Our job is to build the best operational backbone for sophisticated accounting firms—and to work exceptionally well with the other systems those firms choose.

The top 500 have been underserved for too long.

We are building specifically for them.
